Location: Dodge This Paintball Sudbury, Ontario
Weather; -1c to +1c bright sunny light breeze
Field of play; 150’ X 300’ Flat….. Not a tree in sight barriers of car, large tires and facades of buildings facing onto a center tower (sight of the nickels) with two movable inflated barriers.
The game saw two teams of around 25 each anchored by both Cold Snap and the Alq Irr.
with the remaining players divided up between.
AI rolled into the Nickel City with gear for a romp in the bush with only 6” of snow on the ground only to find that we were to play on the above described field.
In the first segment we saw both teams try to control the center with AI a little back on their heels as they got use to the short range engagements and a sky full of paint.
After the first 20 min AI side had gotten a small number of nickels in our base.
Near to the mid way point of the half AI members Rabbit and Rambo with others made a frontal assault on the Cold Snap base and were rewarded with “five” nickels.
They sent these back with a runner and held the base till the respond, at which time those responded from the CS side were held out in the open as the responding AI opened up and weakened their number in a minute by a ¼.
With responses every 10min and AI running low on or out of air and balls the CS side then pushed and over ran the AI base and reports are they were rewarded “five” nickels each?.
The battle then settled back to a ball fest till the break.
More paint had to be brought in as players from the AI side have not thrown so much in a game and still found as many coming back at them.
The reports were that AI was down some 31 nickels at the start of the second half (I use the term half loosely) as we were told that there would be three recert and that would be it for the day.
After some talk CG Crazycanuck mentioned that the dead boxes should be relocated22 opposite and Chris and his staff agreed.
No punches were pulled on either side as the game resumed seeing a strong push to control the half field mark by AI worked and held as runners started the one nickel at a time relay to claw back the 30+ deficit. FuzzyWussy ran her heart out repeating the run under heavy fire time and time again.
In the last 5min CS made a suicide run with four guys in to the rear flank of the AI base taking a number of AI side with them but leaving a number of AI still in control of the center and a clear path to the nickels running laps as fast as possible with little residence till the Game was called.
Many bodies were bloodied I witnessed one player attached to AI running a coin back and hitting a wall hurt he rolled over and crawled to the base with the coin. Others were injured with high occurrences of close shooting and multi balls. Bloody lips large bruises ect.. nothing a few ice packs couldn’t mend.
In the end AI was victorious with a count of 78 to 75 holding the CS side to near no coins in the second go and making up and surpassing the 30 coin deficit.
Great job by all who played FuzzyWuzzy named MVP and the great looking trophy going north with the AI winners of Cold Nickel 2010.
The only detractors I would add is that the field did not have any facilities for our women warriors as the males used the parking lot snow banks. And there was a break down in communication as to the size of the field before the event.
But I want to thank Chris once again for even with these two things the day was a blast and we had more fun then can be legal.
Cold Snap you are a stand up group of guys I would play with or against you any time.
